AIMS OF TREATING PERSISTENT PAIN

Aims of treating persistent pain1, 2, 3

Therapy is provided to patients with persisting pain, with the aim of:

  • Decreasing pain and suffering
  • Improving physical and mental functioning
  • Maximising participation in daily living activities
  • Improving emotional well-being
  • Providing hope, coping skills and confidence
  • Minimising the time spent away from work or other roles
  • Increasing self-reliance despite persistent pain
  • Helping patients learn to accept the reality that their pain may persist, but it doesn’t mean they are sick and it doesn’t need to dominate their lives.
