Aims of treating persistent pain1, 2, 3
Therapy is provided to patients with persisting pain, with the aim of:
- Decreasing pain and suffering
- Improving physical and mental functioning
- Maximising participation in daily living activities
- Improving emotional well-being
- Providing hope, coping skills and confidence
- Minimising the time spent away from work or other roles
- Increasing self-reliance despite persistent pain
- Helping patients learn to accept the reality that their pain may persist, but it doesn’t mean they are sick and it doesn’t need to dominate their lives.
